Interview with Kristen and Grant

JM: How many different blocks were there?
Kristen: I don't understant
Grant: They call them 'pods'. There are 12, I think. Unless you have work detail or work release you NEVER leave the pod, everything happens there; meals are brought in, you shower there, everything.

JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they?
Kristen: I don't know
Grant: just letters, "A" etc.

JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks?
Kristen: violent,drugs
Grant: They kind of separate violent and non-violent offenses, there is a pod for inmates granted work release, and one pod is rented out to the state for the overcrowded state prison

JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks?
Kristen: some of the people smelled
Grant: they are all exactly the same far as I know

The DCJ is a very boring depressing place. The guards (majority) are lazy and don't want to be bothered. It takes an act on congress to get a question answered or get something taken care of (e.g.getting toilet paper or a mattress for your room)/ I realize jail is not designed for ones comfort but with this being america and all that I am ashamed and embarrassed the way detention facilities operate these days. However I will say this. . Durham has private rooms for the most part. and you do have a small space for privacy. It's been called the Durham Hilton because some people live better in jail than on the street.
